What is understood as transdisciplinary practices?

Transdisciplinary practices provide a context for people to, together, develop innovative and socially robust solutions to complex challenges. A transdisciplinary team not only consists of people who work together across traditional disciplinary or professional boundaries but also includes engaging with the knowledge and experiences of the local people whose lives are influenced by the challenges and the future solutions. At the initial start of the project and throughout the whole project, the transdisciplinary team members come together to jointly communicate; exchange ideas and work together to come up with solutions to challenges. Transdisciplinary practices entail the co-design, co-creation and co-constructing of solutions to complex challenges. Although each team member contributes his/her own knowledge and expertise, solutions to create and sustain change are integrated as a transdisciplinary approach and not as interdisciplinary solutions running concurrently with each other.
